Fighting the Causes of Tax Hikes

Throughout the spring legislative session, Democrats repeatedly claimed affordability was their top priority for Illinois families. But when it came time to deliver, they did what Illinois families have come to expect: said one thing and did another. While Democrats talked about affordability, Rep. Mike Coffey supports real solutions to lower costs for seniors and families in Illinois.
Common-sense conservatives like Mike Coffey are fighting against the root causes of higher taxes — bad state policies that lead to families paying more. Coffey opposes overspending and misplaced priorities, including over $3 billion that Governor Pritzker and the legislative majority have spent on illegal immigrants, and Democrats’ diversion of downstate road funds in their transit bailout.
Mike has opposed Governor Pritzker’s cuts to Local Government Distributive Funds (LGDF) for local emergency response, public works and public safety. Pritzker’s policy pressures local governments to hike property taxes to cover the shortfalls. Coffey delivered real property tax relief to seniors and is fighting for broad-based property tax relief for ALL homeowners.
Reducing Energy Costs

Illinois energy bills are way too high. That’s why Mike voted against progressives’ $8 billion “green energy giveaway.” This new law forces utilities to spend billions on unproven battery storage technology for wind and solar projects and sticks ratepayers with the tab. Illinois families simply cannot afford it! Mike is fighting to make Illinois an energy leader again with an “all-of-the-above” approach to producing our own affordable, reliable power right here at home.
“We should focus on preserving our energy from sources like natural gas, coal, and fossil fuels that work and utilize a strong workforce to meet our demands and keep prices affordable.” – State Rep. Mike Coffey
Opposing Tax Hikes
Coffey strongly opposes Illinois’ proposed Retirement Tax and supports eliminating Illinois’ Death Tax. Mike leads the way in opposing new tax hike proposals like the service tax, plastic bag tax, ammunition tax, and the campfire tax. Mike Coffey is adamant that we cannot tax our way to prosperity.
Coffey Understands What Illinois Residents Deserve and Supports the Following Legislation
HB 1317: Repeals the Illinois TRUST Act and puts Illinois Residents First
HB 4294: Increases funding for local governments by raising the share of state income tax revenue transferred from the General Revenue Fund to the Local Government Distributive Fund (LGDF)
SB 642: Increases the maximum income limitation for the Senior Freeze Homestead Exemption creating property tax relief.
HR 0112: No Taxes on Retirement Income
