The Property Tax Crisis in Illinois

Due to poor public policy, Illinois now has the highest effective property tax rate in the nation. We must reverse course and craft policies that keep families and businesses here in Illinois because our state continues to see people flee to neighboring states to save money.

But during the budget address, my colleagues on the other side of the aisle support cutting tax revenues from local governments (LGDF Funds) which will likely lead to even higher property taxes.

House Republicans have brought forth dozens of bills I support that are aimed squarely at attacking the property tax crisis in Illinois, but the majority party refuses to acknowledge them. Unfortunately, the likely outcome is more of the same – politics over policy, and rhetoric over solutions.

Property taxes in Illinois are out of control, and I knows we can do better. Residents are being taxed out of Illinois, and I’m committed to reversing the trend and bring families and businesses back to this state. It’s our job as legislators to work for the people of our districts, and I strongly encourage my colleagues on the other side of the aisle to work with us to reduce property taxes.

Illinois has the highest property tax burden in the country, and costs continue to rise due to failed public policies.
