Improving public safety continues to be a top priority for me and one of the things that I do as State Representative is I go across the district talking to people about what their needs and their interests are.

It’s a Mike on Main Street where I go into businesses and talk about their concerns and one of the concerns that has come up time and time again is the SAFE-T Act. After hearing from my constituents and having discussions with local police chiefs, I took action and filed House Bill 4275. This bill would amend the SAFE-T Act and make all felonies detainable. The governor says that he’s open to making changes to the law so I’m hopeful my bill will be considered for a vote in Public Safety committee.
Just recently, I met with the Sangamon County Sheriff and the State’s Attorney to find out how the SAFE-T Act affects their jobs and what changes should be made, because as legislators our job is to serve the people of Illinois.
We talked about my bill that would allow judges to hold criminals behind bars for all felonies and having more judicial discretion so that we can make our communities much safer.
House Bill 4275 amends the SAFE-T Act to make it much safer for our citizens here in the 95th District and across the state of Illinois.
