SCHEELS Sports Park Dome – Largest in the Country

Springfield Illinois will soon be home to the largest air-supported sports dome in the world. Scheels Sports Park broke ground in 2023 and the project is on track to open this fall. According to Scott Dahl, Springfield tourism director, the Scheels Sports Park is expected to attract 200,000 visitors to the Capitol City and is anticipated to bring in $30 million in annual revenue. School athletes will be able to play baseball, softball, football, and soccer outside and play basketball, volleyball, and soccer inside the dome.

State Representative Mike Coffey says the new sports complex will have a significant impact on the 95th District and will boost tourism in Springfield.

“The Scheels Sports Park is fantastic for Springfield and I’m looking forward to seeing the community and out-of-town visitors take advantage of everything it has to offer,” said Coffey. “This project is going to boost tourism and our local economy.”
