Rep. Coffey Issues Statement After the FY27 Budget Passes Through General Assembly
Springfield, IL…Lawmakers have concluded Spring Legislative Session after passing the Fiscal Year 2027 (FY27) state budget. State Representative Mike Coffey (R-Springfield) voted against the budget and says Illinois Democrats raised taxes yet again at a time when families need relief.
“Illinois families deserve a budget that reflects fiscal responsibility and policies that drive economic growth and tax relief, but the FY27 budget delivered the opposite,” said Coffey. “Our tax base is shrinking, and businesses are leaving or closing their doors because of the bureaucratic red tape that is coming out of Springfield. We must prioritize reining in out-of-control spending and get back to finding practical solutions that lower the cost of living because our taxpayers are tapped out.”
The FY27 budget totals $55.9 billion and includes $800 million in new taxes, which makes it the largest budget in state history.
