I cosponsor Senate Bill 2270, a bill that ensures that deputy county medical examiners and deputy coroners are formally recognized as first responders under Illinois law for purposes of employer-provided mental health counseling insurance coverage.
“I’m proud to support this bill and our first responders,” said Coffey. ” We must ensure everyone who experiences traumatic events who provide public safety services to our communities have the health coverage benefits they deserve. This bill will benefit first responders across the state of Illinois.”
This measure closes the gap by extending the existing protections already available to county coroners and medical examiners to their deputies as well. It recognizes the important public safety role these professionals serve our communities with and ensures they receive fair health coverage benefits.
This bill passed both Houses and heads to the governor’s desk for consideration.
