Senate Bill 642 Passed Both Houses During Veto Session with all Republicans voting yes. State Representative Mike Coffey said this legislation is long-overdue.
“I expect the Governor to sign this bill into law because our seniors are need of relief,” said Coffey. “We must act now to help our seniors in Illinois and this bill moves us in the right direction and is one good bill that passed during veto session.”
Income limitations have not been raised since 2017, and this bill offers immediate relief for seniors who need it.
The Senior Freeze Homestead Exemption, raises the income limitation from $65k to $75k for taxable years 2026 (taxes seniors pay in 2027), for taxable years 2027 it goes to $77k and then for taxable year 2028 and thereafter $79k.
