Coffey Votes No on Tax Increases, Democrat Misplaced Priorities
Springfield, IL…Over the weekend, the Illinois General Assembly passed the FY26 budget, which will be among the largest in Illinois history and spend $55.2 billion, with the help of a nearly $1 billion tax increase. Since Governor Pritzker took office, Illinois’ budget has grown 38%. State Representative Mike Coffey (R-Springfield) voted against the budget and says it has misplaced priorities.
“In a time when Illinois families are in dire need of tax relief, the Democrats failed to pass a reasonable budget to serve the best interests of the people of Illinois,” said Coffey. “Serious issues impact our state’s economy and growth, but Democrat politicians double down on raising taxes to fund their own pay raises and special pork projects in their districts.”
Coffey continued, “The only way to grow our state’s economy and attract families here is to make Illinois more affordable by decreasing taxes, creating reasonable energy policies, and reducing bureaucracy on job creators.”
