As many of you know, tragedy unfolded in the community of Chatham yesterday afternoon with four innocent lives being taken from us. Around 3:30 p.m. a vehicle drove off the road, through a field, and crashed into YNOT Outdoors Summer and After School Camp and striking numerous individuals. This tragic accident resulted in four young girls losing their lives: two 7-year-olds, an 8-year-old, and an 18-year-old. Several other children were taken to nearby hospitals for treatment.
The children we mourn today were more than students, they were examples of shining lights in the Chatham community with big dreams. Chatham is a close knit community with small-town values, and we will stand united through this unimaginable tragedy.
To the family members who were directly impacted, there are no words to bring comfort, but I hope you find peace knowing that they will always be remembered by the Chatham community and beyond.
May the memory of these young innocent children bring strength and solace to all of us as we move forward together.
