Coffey’s Bill to Streamline Improvements to Additional Libraries Passes House

Springfield, IL…State Representative Mike Coffey (R-Springfield) passed an important bill this week to maximize our state’s important library resources. Rep. Coffey’s legislation, House Bill 2747, amends the Illinois Library System Act to allocate existing grant funds to improve security measures for residents and tourists.

“Our city is a destination for tourists across the world, and Springfield Public Library should reflect the pride we have in our community,” said Coffey. “By updating security in our community libraries, we will make residents and tourists alike feel comfortable visiting our libraries with their children and grandchildren.”

HB2747, passed unanimously in the House, allows the Secretary of State to appropriate the necessary funds to improve or enhance security measures for members of a library system including public libraries, institutions of higher education libraries, and specialized libraries. It now heads to the Senate for consideration.
