Coffey Named Chief Co-Sponsor to 72-Hour Budget Review Act

House Bill 2813 creates the 72-Hour Budget Review Act which prohibits a hearing or vote on any appropriation bill or revenue bill for at least 72 hours after the bill is made publicly available. State Representative Mike Coffey is Chief Co-Sponsor on this bill and has this to say:

“This bill is a step towards more transparency and gives legislators ample time to review and analyze legislation. Not only will this help us better understand a bill and know the actually purpose, but it also creates a better structure for the legislative process.”

Illinois Democrats have a long history of working behind closed doors and dropping bills with very little, or no time at all for legislators to thoroughly review language in the bills. HB2813 aims to improve transparency within the General Assembly.
