Rep. Coffey’s Bill Supporting Children of Veterans Passes House Unanimously

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Springfield, IL…State Representative Mike Coffey (R-Springfield) is happy to see his bill, which increases access to college scholarships for children of U.S. military veterans, pass through the Illinois House of Representatives with support from both sides of the aisle. House Bill 4733 passed unanimously with a roll call of 112-0.

This bill extends our respect to even more children of veterans, and I’m happy the House of Representatives had bipartisan support on HB4733,” said Rep. Coffey. “I will always support and advocate for Veterans and their families. This bill reflects the importance of recognizing our Veterans by expanding scholarships to more students.”

HB4733 was filed by Rep. Coffey to amend the University of Illinois Act. The amendment expands who is eligible for honorary scholarships to the children of veterans who served at any time during the invasion of Panama between December 20, 1989, and January 31, 1990.

Rep. Coffey continued, “I believe the sacrifices made by our military and their families can never be fully repaid. However, adding the children of those who served during Operation Just Cause to be eligible for scholarships is one small way we can repay them for their sacrifices.”

HB4733 was supported by several bipartisan sponsors and is now heading to the State Senate for consideration.
