Springfield, IL…State Representative Mike Coffey (R-Springfield) honored President Abraham Lincoln’s birthday by participating in the Annual Pilgrimage to the Tomb of Abraham Lincoln in Springfield. After laying a wreath on Lincoln’s tomb and taking a moment of silence, Rep. Coffey embraced the experience and had this to say:
“Today, American cities pay tribute to one of the most notable presidents in our lifetime and I was humbled to be part of a tradition that symbolizes our great nation today and what we stand for,” said Rep. Coffey. “President Lincoln was a man of good heart, wisdom, and truth. The words he left us will forever be remembered as they reflect the dignity all Americans should live with.”
The American Legion, Springfield Post #32 has sponsored the Annual Pilgrimage to the Tomb of Abraham Lincoln since 1935. This special event begins on February 11th, with The American Legion
National Commander; American Legion Auxiliary National President; Sons of The American Legion
National Commander and American Legion dignitaries from Illinois and throughout the United States coming to Springfield to honor our 16th President on his birthday.
All members from Springfield Post #32 American Legion carry pride every year as they continue the tradition to honor our 16th President, Abraham Lincoln.
Coffey continued by thanking the American Legion Members:
“I would like to give a special thank you to all members of Springfield Post #32 American Legion for their commitment and dedication to always honor our Veterans and their families. Sometimes the greatest work by people is done behind closed doors and not always in the spotlight, but I personally know the impact this post has had on the community and it’s outstanding.”
